Yazoo City High School Students Visit State Capitol for the 2nd Annual Yazoo County Day
A group of Yazoo City High School students had the opportunity to visit the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson last week to participate in the annual Yazoo County Day. The event, designed to highlight the community's achievements and advocate for local issues, provided students with a firsthand look at the workings of state government and the opportunity to engage with their elected officials.
The students, accompanied by teachers and community leaders, toured the historic Capitol building, observed legislative sessions, and met with state representatives and senators, including those serving Yazoo County. These interactions gave students an opportunity to discuss key issues affecting their community, such as education funding, workforce development, and infrastructure improvements.
Yazoo County Day, an annual tradition, celebrates the rich history, culture, and contributions of Yazoo County while fostering stronger ties between the community and state officials.
The experience left a lasting impression on the students and a deeper appreciation for the importance of civic engagement. As Yazoo County continues to grow and thrive, events like these remind everyone of the power of community collaboration and the bright potential of its youth.
